How to Mod Beat Saber on PC

Learn how to mod Beat Saber on PC using BSManager. Step-by-step setup, essential mods, and how to safely install custom songs and tools.

Ever wanted you favorite songs and better tools in Beat Saber? Me too.

This guide shows you exactly how to mod the PC version using BSManager (a.k.a. the easiest and safest way to install mods), switch game versions, and start playing custom maps in minutes.

No guesswork, just a clean setup so you can get straight to playing.

Disclaimer: this guide is for PC (Steam or Oculus PC version), not for standalone Quest modding.

Before You Start

    • Modding only works on specific Beat Saber versions
    • Updates can break mods
    • Always back up your game

If your mods don’t work later, it’s usually a version issue, not a you issue.

Step 1 - Install BSManager

BSManager is the easiest way to manage mods and game versions and is the manager I prefer to use.

What BSManager Does:

    • installs mod-compatible versions
    • manages mods automatically
    • lets you switch versions easily

How to Install:

Once open, it should detect your Beat Saber installation.

Step 2 - Install the Correct Version of Beat Saber

Mods don’t work on the latest version right away.

In BSManager:

    • Go to the Versions tab
    • Select a mod-compatible version (usually has a “recommended” banner)
    • Sign in to Steam or Oculus Store if prompted and click install

BSManager handles everything else here.

Step 3 - Install Core Mods

Once your version is installed you’ll need to install the required dependencies. Sometimes BSManager does this for you, other times you need to prompt it.

Go to:

Mods → Install Recommended Mods

This usually includes:

    • BSIPA
    • SongCore
    • + the essential dependencies and libraries

This is enough to get started, but I would also recommend:

    • BeatSaverDownloader
    • BeatSaverUpdater
    • WhyIsThereNoLeaderboard

These are under “Essentials” in the mods tab.

Step 4 - Launch the Game (Important)

Launch Beat Saber through BSManager, not Steam. This ensures mods load correctly and creates the mod folders in your version file.

Please do this before adding custom songs or they will not load properly.

Step 5 - Download Custom Songs

Now the fun part, downloading custom songs. There are a few ways to do this:

Option 1 - In BSManager

Inside your modded version in BSManager:

    • On the top bar, select maps
    • Click the “Add +” button in the top left corner, and select browse
    • Use the search bar or browse for a song you like
    • Once you find one, click the download icon on the right side of the map card

Option 2 - In-Game

With mods like BeatSaverDownloader and BeatSaverUpdater installed you can:

    • open Beat Saber
    • go to More Songs / Song Browser in the mods panel
    • download songs directly from BeatSaver.com

You may also download songs directly from popular sites such as:

You can check out my personal mod list here, but these are the ones I personally recommend to start out:

Core Mods (Required)

    • BSIPA
    • SongCore

Again, BSManager has these for you by default.

Gameplay / Improvement Mods

    • Practice Plugin - allows you to control playback speed, seek through songs, and setup looping sections
    • SliceDetails - a tool that shows your average cut angle and offset per note position/angle to help perfect your accuracy
    • BeatLeader - an open source leaderboard mod with detailed score statistics and a replay viewer

Quality of Life Mods

    • BetterSongList - adds various tweaks to the in game song list like filters, a persisted state, and more
    • Tweaks55 - a collection of various tweaks including color, graphics, and UI changes
    • GottaGoFast - significantly decreases the time it takes to restart and leave songs

Common Problems (Quick Fixes)

Mods Not Showing Up

    • launch through BSManager
    • reinstall mods
    • double check you have dependencies installed

Game Crashes

    • wrong version
    • incompatible mods
    • Try switching versions in BSManager

Songs Not Appearing

    • check folder location
    • restart game
    • make sure you have SongCore installed

How to Update Mods Safely

When Beat Saber updates:

DO NOT update immediately

Wait until:

BSManager shows a mod-compatible version

Then:

    • install the new version
    • reinstall mods

Why Use BSManager Instead of Manual Modding?

Because it:

    • prevents version issues
    • simplifies installs
    • lets you switch versions easily

I believe it’s the safest and easiest method out there.

Final Thoughts

Modding Beat Saber unlocks:

    • custom songs
    • better tools
    • more control

And with BSManager? It’s actually pretty simple to set up.
